Mauritius: New Investment Opportunities for French Entrepreneurs

Unlocking Pathways to Innovation, Sustainability & African Expansion

Ebene, Mauritius, Africa | 03 June 2025

Mauritius has taken a decisive step to deepen its economic and investment ties with France and Réunion Island through the Mauritius–France Business Forum 2025, held at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Ebene. The event was officially launched by Junior Minister of Finance, Mr. Dhaneshwar Damry and it brought together more than 70 French and 200 Mauritian entrepreneurs, setting the stage for strategic partnerships and long-term collaboration.

The Forum was co-organised by the Economic Development Board (EDB), Business Mauritius, MEDEF International and Business France, aiming to position Mauritius as a gateway for French businesses seeking growth in Africa and the Indian Ocean region.

A Forward-Looking Vision Anchored in Sustainability and Inclusion

In his keynote address, Minister Damry outlined a new economic model guided by investment, innovation and inclusion, underpinned by the transversal principles of social justice, climate justice and gender justice. He reaffirmed Mauritius’s commitment to building future-proof sectors, including financial services, the blue economy and sustainable development.

A key highlight of the Forum was Mauritius’s ambitious goal to mobilise USD 6.5 billion for climate-related infrastructure projects. These include water management, renewable energy, coastal protection and waste treatment—with two-thirds of the funding expected from international partners.

Streamlining Permits & Simplifying the Path for Foreign Stakeholders

A central message of the Forum was Mauritius’s renewed commitment to creating a more agile, investor-friendly environment through the simplification of administrative procedures.

Minister Damry highlighted ongoing government efforts to simplify and fast-track administrative procedures for investment and work permits – a move designed to enhance the ease of doing business for international entrepreneurs. Mauritius’s positioning as a strategic and secure base for operations into Africa was a recurring theme throughout the Forum.

Key figures in attendance included:

  • Mrs. Céline Gouveia, Vice President Identity Sales Government Programs, IN Groupe & Chair, France-East Africa Business Council (MEDEF International)
  • Mr. Anil Currimjee, President of Business Mauritius
  • Mr. Sanjay Bhunjun, Chairperson of the EDB

Each speaker emphasised the need to strengthen bilateral business ties, foster innovation and promote Mauritius as a resilient economic partner in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
